: Oshino Hakkai, 151 Shibokusa, Oshino-mura, Minamitsuru-gun 401-0511 Yamanashi PrefectureOshino
Hakkai is a tourist spot consisting of eight ponds in Oshino, a small village in the Fuji Five Lakes region. It is located between Lake Kawaguchi and Lake Yamanaka, and is located on the site of the former sixth lake, which dried up hundreds of years ago. The eight ponds are filled with meltwater from the slopes of nearby Mt. Fuji that has been filtering down the mountain through porous lava layers for over 80 years, resulting in crystal clear spring water that is revered by locals. Next to the ponds, you can drink the cool water that springs from the source. The ponds are quite deep and are home to interesting freshwater plants and large fish. As they are maintained as tourist spots, they can get crowded with many tourists, but if you are not expecting untouched nature, they have a pleasant atmosphere.
